How we turn glass into metal

Open Deco Drop Post Earrings in Iridescent Sunset

At Broken Plates glass wearables, we love to harness the magic qualities of glass in a variety of interesting and unique ways. One of those ways is through the use of our metallic glass colors.

Our glass starts out clear, and during the glassblowing process we are able to add colored glass in order to achieve the perfect hues for our line of contemporary, art-deco inspired glass jewelry.

These glass colors are created with different metal oxides. To get our Iridescent colors, we must torch the glass inside of a hot kiln which brings those metals to the surface of the glass. You can watch a video explaining that process here.

Available in our blown glass and hot pressed lines of jewelry, we offer 2 types of metallic finishes. One is an Iridescent Silver, which carries more cool tones, and and Iridescent Sunset, which is going to offer warmer, more fiery tones.
