How we create our line of imagery glass necklaces

Creating our resist imagery in preparation for sandblasting our glass plates

At Broken Plates, we have a line of wearable glass imagery necklaces that are created from hand blown glass plates. You might be wondering how we are able to make detailed images on the glass, and for that we have some videos on this process here.

We first draw and print out our image on transparency paper. Then we use that transparency to expose a piece of photosensitive resist film to UV light for 33 seconds. We wash away the unexposed parts of the film with warm water until only the hardened, cured, part is left. So we have essentially created a stencil to stick on the glass so that we can etch, or sandblast, into the exposed portions of the image.

The result is our fabulous line of glass necklaces with imagery, inspired by nature and botanicals., which we offer in all of our signature blown glass colors!
