Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Collaboration Continues

A batch of cut and sanded gilded tiles are ready to be fire polished in our kiln, returning all edges to their glossy shine

At Broken Plates glass wearables, we work with a handful of different types of glass and love to push the boundaries! One of the most precious types of glass we use are these vintage 24K Gold Leaf gilded glass tiles from the iconic exterior of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, CA.

When the tiles arrive at our studio they have cement and debris from over 80 years of wear and tear

The museum went through a serious renovation a few years ago to restore this exterior and removed the old tiles to replace with new ones. Now, having this large quantity of vintage 1930’s gold glass tiles, the museum was interested in collaborating with contemporary jewelry artists to make work to be exclusively featured through the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures gift shop and website shop. Lucky for us, we were selected to participate in this opportunity of a lifetime.

We recently sent the Academy a restock of a few favorites, along with some new styles, and are so excited to share this work with you! Below you will find a small selection of our collaboration collection. But to find all of the historic 24K gold leaf tile glass jewelry, head on over to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ website.
