From sludge to shine

Our Green Tea Tint sheet glass being cut at the waterjet

Before we can create our line of sleek contemporary jewelry, our glass shapes must be cut out at the waterjet. This process allows us to perfectly reproduce every sharp angle and specific curve. The waterjet machine combines a powerful stream of water and abrasives that can accumulate on the surface of the glass during any given cutting session. In addition to the grit in the water, there is also mystery “sludge“ in the machine from previous jobs and materials that were cut before our glass. So a day at the waterjet definitely means leave your fineries at home; we end up getting sprayed and splashed with that sludge!

After we return to our studio with our cut glass, we sand each edge and then run them through the kiln to bring back the glossy shine to all surfaces of the glass. Check out some examples of what can happen when we endure the sludge to get to the shine!
