Cutting glass with water

Our glass in the process of getting cut at the waterjet

Yes, you read that right. At Broken Plates, we actually cut out most of our glass with a dangerously forceful stream of water and abrasives! While this method sounds scary, it is a surprisingly gentle way to cut a variety of materials with incredible precision.

Each art deco inspired shape is cut using a CNC waterjet, allowing for these geometric shapes to be perfectly reproduced. After each shape is cut from the surface of our glass, they are sanded by hand using diamond-infused abrasives. A trip through the kiln returns each sanded edge to its original glassy shine.

Take a look at some of examples of what can happen at the intersection of fashion and technology, from both our current Broken Plates line and our discontinued Flat Files section!
